To organize Smart home system on your own means not only saving on the outsourcing installation, but you can get a unique experience in adjustment of a sophisticated technical system. It will help you to update the system further if you need or to solve any appearing problem with it by yourself.

On the Internet we can find a lot of articles on organizing your system on the base of such controllers as Arduino, Rasberri PI and so on without assistance. There are also GSM controllers which have a functionality to organize such a system. For example, you can develop light, start heating or control alarm conditions.

Absolute advantage of such a solution is its price: a controller costs from 1.000 rub up to some thousands rubles, sensor costs no more than two hundred rubles per one. A software is free or costs some dollars per applications for  iPhone or Android.

But you should not forget about disadvantages of such a system.

First, low price leads to the poor reliability of the system. Controller like Arduino is not bad, but it is not secured against its banal pending or error. Even necessity of its reload appearing no more than once in a couple of weeks can spoil your life a lot if it happens at the wrong moment.  And controller outage will leave your home without light if you do not worry about quick replacement of any unit.

Secondly, installer must have wide knowledge concerning microelectronics, electrical engineering and low current systems, industrial control programming as well and perhaps write a software. Of course some people will be interested in such work, but not for everyone.

Thirdly, such a smart home system will not be suitable  for installers who want to make a comfortable and functional system for their customers, as there will be a great deal of visits concerning warranty service because of program failures.
